Content Editing Service

For an even more thorough edit, our professional content editors will evaluate the overall flow of your manuscript, checking for consistency, structure, and presentation.

  • For fiction titles, our content editors will focus on maintaining consistency in the storyline, characters, and dialogue.
  • For nonfiction titles, they will monitor consistency of information, structure and organization, use of visual aids, and flow of ideas.
How do I get started?
  1. Select this service as part of your publishing submission process, or if already signed, complete the FriesenPress Service Order Form (click here to download). Please note that if your manuscript has never been copy edited before, it will require our copyediting service prior to being content edited. Your author account manager will be glad to assist you with this requirement.
  2. Submit your manuscript in Microsoft Word (single file required).
  3. Your content editor will review and mark up your manuscript using Word’s change tracking feature. The edits will be color-coded to clearly show you deletions, additions, changes, and editor suggestions (our editing guidelines are based on the industry-standard writing reference guide, The Chicago Manual of Style, published by The University of Chicago Press).
  4. Once content editing is completed you will receive a marked-up Word file with the editor’s recommendations. At this point, your task is to decide which changes to incorporate into your manuscript. As a rule, our editors never permanently alter original copy. As the author, you always make the final decision on all text changes to your work.
How do I calculate the cost for this service?

Count the number of words in your manuscript using your word processor's word-count feature, divide this number by 100, and multiply the result by $3.50 (i.e. $3.50 per 100 words).
