Once your manuscript has been copy and content edited and you have entered all the changes as you deemed appropriate, our professional proofreaders will perform a character-by-character final pass of your manuscript before your book goes into production. They will be looking for missing words, erroneous cross-references, and “persistent” misspellings (those pesky ones that manage to get through spell-check unnoticed time and time again). They will also do a visual check for formatting issues, such as incorrect word breaks, headings and line spacing, to ensure consistency in the overall layout.
How do I get started?
- Select this service as part of your publishing submission process, or if already signed, complete the FriesenPress Service Order Form (click here to download). Please note that our copy and content editing services are pre-requisites for this service. Your author account manager will be glad to assist you with this requirement.
- Submit your manuscript in Microsoft Word (single file required).
- Your proofreader will mark up your manuscript using Word’s change-tracking feature. The edits will be color-coded to clearly show you deletions, additions, and changes.
- Once proofreading is done you will receive a marked-up Word file with the changes. At this point, your task is to decide which changes to incorporate into your manuscript. As a rule, our editors never permanently alter original copy. As the author, you always make the final decision on all text changes to your work.
How do I calculate the cost for this service?
Count the number of words in your manuscript using your word processor's word-count feature, divide this number by 100, and multiply the result by $1.25 (i.e. $1.25 per 100 words).
